Receiving Animals

The Jessamine Humane Society will accept any animal, regardless of it's health, temperment, age or breed. When you relinquish ownership of an animal to us, we consider it your final decision and the disposition of that animal will be the responsibility of the JHS. We are not a "no-kill" facility. This means that we will do our absolute best to find a good, loving home for every animal that passes through our doors. We will keep and care for them as long as we have room.

When a stray enters the shelter, we try to locate it's owner. We scan for a microchip, check for i.d. tags, anything that can help us reunite them with their family. We hold the animal for 5 days and then it is eligible for adoption.

Please don't dump your unwanted animal on the side of the road or on a farm, hoping that someone will find them. Most of the time they will just run into the road and be injured or killed. Bring them to the JHS. That's why we're here. We understand that there are circumstances where you can no longer keep and properly care for a pet.
