A person is guilty of cruelty to animals if they participate in any activity that causes injury or death to the animal. Under Kentucky statute, animal owners must provide adequate food, drink, space and health care for any animal in their custody. If you witness cruelty, neglect or abuse of any animal, please call the Jessamine County Animal Control at 859-885-4836.

Reporting cruelty and neglect
Keeping your dog outside chained or tethered is a bad idea. Dogs are social animals that need interaction as part of your family. Living at the end of a chain makes the dog an easy target for attack by other animals, people or insects and may suffer from exposure to extreme temperatures. The tether can become entangled and the dog can choke or strangle to death. It is considered inhumane to keep a dog continuously chained up.

We recommend that all pets be kept indoors with the family. This is the best way for them to become well adjusted companions. If you are concerned about a dog that is frequently tethered or left outside without proper shelter, food and water, please call Animal Control. They are available Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
